Week 1 Day 1 - "Casa Maria Cristina"

Here's where I'm going to live the next 12 weeks. The house used to belong to the abuela (grandmother) of José (the Costa Rican Program Director) and Daniel (our HouseManager and José's brother).

All the volunteers live here. 5 have arrived with me this weekend, and 7 more have arrived previously. When the program is busy, the house can host up to about 40 volunteers. As the holiday season and school vacations are coming up December through late January, many placements are closed, and fewer volunteers needed. To this circumstance I owe the luxury of having a room to myself... at least for the moment... hurrayyyy!!!

There is a common area with books & games, and another area for meals & presentations / classes.

Also, the offices for the local staff are in the same building.

Hier wohne ich die nächsten 12 Wochen. Das Haus gehörte der Großmutter von José (ProgrammDirektor von Costa Rica) und Daniel (unser HausManager und Bruder von José).

Alle Voluntäre wohnen hier. 5 sind mit mir dieses Wochenende angekommen und 7 waren schon da. Insgesamt können hier bis zu ca. 40 Voluntäre untergebracht werden. Von Dezember bis Januar schließen jedoch viele Schulen und andere Einrichtungen und es werden weniger Voluntäre gebraucht. Diesem Umstand verdanke ich den Luxus, daß ich (zumindest vorläufig) ein Zimmer für mich habe.

Es gibt eine Art Wohnraum für alle mit Regalen voller Bücher & Spielen. Dann gibt es eine überdachte Stelle im Freien, die für die gemeinsamen Essen und Vorträge oder Unterricht genutzt wird.

Außerdem sind die Büroräume des ProgrammPersonals im Haus.
